Design Support Technician

As part of the R&D team, you will be responsible for building test solutions and supporting the design support team. This role is very hands on, you’ll be involved in developing test solutions from concept to final delivery.

We are looking for an individual with either previous industrial experience or has an engineering educational background that can demonstrate electronic knowledge with strong hands on skills.

Main Tasks

  • Designing, specifying and constructing test jig solution for internal and external production.
  • Electronic/Mechanical design of functional test solutions with continuous improvement.
  • Sourcing of parts, research material, documenting build process and generating BOMs.
  • Interpret circuit diagrams to design and build stripboard based circuits.
  • Updating test rigs, building cables sets and performing jig repairs.
  • Active role in design for test, during prototype development.
  • Perform prototype PCB modifications and associated sub-assemblies.
  • Support with troubleshooting build issues and test failures.
  • Supporting with obsolescence and general R&D tasks

Knowledge and Skills

  • ONC or higher in an Electronic Engineering subjects or has previous experience in electronic manufacturing/design with a focus on functional testing/development.
  • Mechanical, metal work fabrication skills with competent use of hand tools.
  • Knowledge of Audio electronics what be advantageous.
  • PCB rework skills conventional and surface mount is a must.
  • Ability to read electronic schematics, fault finding and use general test equipment.
  • Wiring and Looming skills.
  • Previous experience of CAD tools like Solidworks and PCB layout would be desirable.
