Using Pro-Convert

Using Pro-Convert could not be simpler.

First, you need to open a project file.

You will need to ensure that all relevant files are in the same project or session folder and that you have saved the project in an appropriate format. You will find a full list of compatible applications and the appropriate file format for each in the User Guide and here in our Format Overview and Detailed Format Table web pages.

NOTE We would like to highlight how two of our largest user groups (Steinberg Cubase/Nuendo & Apple Logic & Final Cut Pro users) need to import/export using Pro-Convert.

Cubase/Nuendo users need to use Steinberg XML format project files for conversion using Pro-Convert. Please ensure that your Steinberg software version supports XML file format import/export. Please also be aware that Pro-convert reads XML files generated in Cubase V3 to V4.0 (not Cubase v4.1) and Nuendo 2 to 3.x (Not Nuendo v4)and writes Steinberg XML file format v3, that can be read in Cubase V3-V4.1 and Nuendo V2-V4.0.

Final Cut Pro users can import/export Apple XML files using Pro-Convert.

The XML files exported from Logic 8.xx are currently not supported by Pro-Convert. Logic 8.01 can import Apple XML files from Pro-Convert. Please use OMF or OpenTL export from Logic instead.

When the project opens you see a simple interface. Up at the top we have a collection of information about the project. Down the middle we can toggle between a browser view of the project folder and a ‘track view’ list of the audio tracks within the project. In the area to the right we have a list of the audio files or ‘events’ associated with the project or a selected individual track. In the bottom right you see a set of information about individual audio files. Down the left a set of icons represent the various applications that are available for you to translate your project to. There is a ‘favorites’ folder that you can drag and drop icons to that makes it easy to find the formats you use all the time. When you select the format you want to convert to, a dialogue box opens.
