Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the buyer is responsible for the supply and inventory levels of components and materials used in all manufacturing activities. To communicate with all suppliers on their delivery schedules and affect change where necessary.  You will be responsible for the delivery schedules from all suppliers to maintain effective flow of material.  You will help develop supplier relationships to ensure the best possible outcome for the business. Manage the global supply chain from UK and offshore manufacturers and manage multiple supplier relationships globally.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate supplier base and work with team to ensure best price, support and quality to meet business needs for both raw material and subcontract vendors
  • Liaise with suppliers to obtain accurate delivery dates
  • Place purchase orders in line with the MRP reports
  • Effectively expedite deliveries in difficult circumstances
  • Persuade vendors to defer their deliveries where necessary
  • Keep inventory to a minimum without affecting production flow
  • Meet with suppliers to discuss delivery performance KPIs
  • Ensure the material supply chain needs of manufacturing are met
  • Raise any issues that may impact on the production flow at the earliest opportunity
  • Resolve any price queries with the purchase orders and invoices
  • Produce monthly reports on supplier KPIs
  • Liaise with other members of the Purchasing Team on any issues
  • To be able to work as part of a team and take on other general office duties as required
  • Liaise with suppliers to ensure they can meet changing production requirements
  • Influence suppliers to achieve recovery at the earliest possible time
  • System Data Accuracy and Integrity – i.e., Purchase Order Maintenance
  • Inventory Control – appropriate controls for On-Site and Off-Site stock
  • Review complex supplier quotes and provide recommendations for cost savings
  • Develop, negotiate and implement cost reduction programmes
  • Be the ‘Go to’ buyer for all engineers requiring RFQs, Sourcing and ordering of parts for new production introduction
  • To undertake any other task commensurate with this role.

 

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Degree/CIPS qualification or relevant experience in a similar role
  • Minimum of 5 years commercial experience in a manufacturing/buying/procurement function which is based around volume MRP processes
  • Minimum 5 years electronics / Electromechanical purchasing from Global Suppliers Purchasing components, sub-assemblies and finished goods
  • Advanced Excel and data manipulation skills
  • Fully conversant with MRP & ERP Systems
  • Computer literate in Office 365
