Reporting to: R&D Support Team Leader
Conditions: Full time, salaried
As part of the R&D team, you will be responsible for the mechanical designs and integration of our hardware solutions. Innovation, value, and quality are key to our product developments. The design work will be varied, working with a variety of materials and in several audio markets. Our product range is a mixture of low to medium/high volumes, where cosmetics and ergonomics are a massive driver to our design process.
We are looking for an engineer that has design knowledge, champions new ideas and can energize our design methods and approaches.
Main Tasks/Responsibilities:
- Computer aided design/modelling using Solid Works.
- Concept designs, creation of parts and evaluation of prototypes.
- Structural design of product casings and frames.
- Design of user panels and assemblies that interact with electronic components and PCBs.
- Design of moulded parts to create cosmetic finishes and mechanical solutions.
- Seeking engineering knowledge/awareness of materials and manufacturing techniques.
- Creating graphics and artworks.
- Presenting design ideas and working on concept solutions.
- Building prototypes, creating build documentation, and generating assembly drawings.
- Mechanical design solutions to enable easy assembly, resolve field and quality issues.
- Ensuring designs our fit for purpose for environmental and thermal requirements.
- Working with sub-contractors to decide the best manufacturing methods.
- Provide engineering support to all parts of the business.
- Continual improvement and learning to develop our design processes.
- Environmental drive to minimize our CO2 footprint during manufacture and the life cycle of our products.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of industrial design experience.
- Graduate calibre in Engineering, ideally with a mechanical degree.
- 3D CAD Experience ideally in Solid Works.
- Good understanding of modern manufacturing processes and tooling methods.
- Experience of designing with thermal and environmental considerations.
- Experience of full product life cycles from concept to design to manufacture.
- Ability to understand complex mechanical systems and drawings.
- Knowledge of graphic packages like Illustrator.
- Knowledge of manufacturing practices and risk analysis would be an advantage.
- Basic electronic knowledge would be desirable.
